The medicines development environment has undergone unprecedented change in the past years. More than half of new medicines derives from biotechnology and advanced technology inventions. New medicines tend to be “personalized” or “tailor-made” and linked up to new ways of assessing risk-benefit and to biomarkers research, development and validation, and companion diagnostics; as well as adapting the pathways to clinical trials, regulatory authorisation and use in patients.
Professor Claus Henrik Nielsen, Ph.D. student Dres Damgaard and project manager Lars Nørgaard from the Institute for Inflammation Research at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet have recently established mAbSolution. It is a small company building on the work of Claus Henrik Nielsen and Dres Damgaard on a potential new drug candidate for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, a so-called inflammatory disease, which is highly disabling and very costly and affects 1 % of the western population.
